One way to win a war is to starve the enemy to defeat. Cut off their food supplies. Of course, the enemy is trying to do the same to you and your people at the same time.

Britain had to bring a lot of her food from across the seas so the German submarines set out to sink the food ships. The Brits suffered. The German people suffered even worse hardships than the British.
